Marriage bond books, 1785-1913 [microform].

The marriage bond is a legally binding agreement entered into by the bride and groom as a covenant with the Commonwealth of Kentucky that the marriage will occur. The bond may include: number, date, name of husband and wife to be, name of surety, terms of bond, and county clerk attestation. The marriage bond book contains only the marriage bond.

Nelson, the fourth county of Virginia's Kentucky District, was created in 1784 from Jefferson County. It is named for Governor Thomas Nelson of Virginia. Bardstown is the county seat.
